It’s true that we feed and care for our pets, but sometimes in all of life’s hustle, we forget to take time to celebrate the joy these furry (or feathered!) family members bring. Pet Day is a great opportunity to take a moment to return some of the love they give you. Even if you don’t have a pet, you can try some new experiences for festive encounters with the animal kingdom. Beyond the obvious new toys, here are some ideas for celebrating National Pet Day.
1. Bake a special pet-friendly treat.
Cats, Dogs, Rabbits—it doesn’t matter, there are animal-specific recipes online that you can cook to give your pet a healthy (but tasty!) treat.
2. Take a Pet to Work.
Check your workplace’s rules to see if the occasional pet visit is allowed. Even if it isn’t an everyday or even every Friday thing, you may find it ok to show off your furry friend for a special day.
Go beyond storing those pet snaps on your phone. Whether professionally shot or professionally printed, Pet Day is a great reminder to make all those cute moments something you can have and hold.
4. Take your Dog to dinner—or ice cream!
While human food is generally discouraged for pets, the rare dish of vanilla ice cream makes a terrific low-risk treat to celebrate the day.
5. Visit a local animal shelter.
Not all pets are as lucky as yours, with an owner to feed and care for them. Go visit these yet-to-be-adopted pets, and consider donating new toys and blankets to your pet shelter for them to enjoy.
6. Throw a party!
One of the best things about our pets is how they foster human connections. Use pet day as an excuse to get together for a furry play date at a new park or someone’s house.
7. Revisit beloved pet movies:
People’s love for their animals has long been documented in TV and movies. Cuddle with your pet while you revisit one of these childhood animal-loving classics
