Matt Hawkins is a Bay Area local. He moved to San Francisco to peruse the traditional route of higher education, but quickly found that coffee caught his attention much more than the material being taught in classrooms. The passion grew and so did his thirst for knowledge and practice. Slowly climbing his way up the quality ladder, Matt has worked in cafes for 7 years. Each job opportunity lead him one step closer to the elusive perfect cup of coffee, until finally the world of specialty coffee opened up for him.
Matt's current title of Lead Barista at a large specialty coffee shop puts him as the first line of defense in quality control, and the point person for training new barista's on the busy service floor. Matt does what he does because he loves it, and for no other reason. His passion is what makes him who he is, and some say that it is contagious.
Matt endlessly seeks to spread coffee knowledge across the globe in an easily accessible way, while striving for a level of quality in coffee most would only dream possible in professional cafe environments.
