All-Inclusive Tuscan Cycling Retreat
With its verdant hills, world-famous cuisine, and distinctive Italian culture, Tuscany has remained an explorer’s paradise for centuries. It’s also one of the most beautiful places in the world to ride a bike. The region offers both rolling hills and true climbs, and some of the best descents in Europe, all in a lush green landscape. IfOnly invites you to savor la dolce vita while satisfying your love of adventure on this trip that combines the best of both worlds: the idyllic countryside and some of the most beautiful terrain known to cyclists.
Each day begins with a breakfast made up of local produce, prepared by the relais’ in-house cook. Then you will embark on rides ranging from two to six hours, taking in café stops and lunch breaks and always supported by ride guides, mechanic, and soigneur, on hand. Rides will follow the historic performances of the pro peloton. Performances like the one current world road champion Michael Kwiatkowski made last year when he launched a formidable attack on Peter Sagan in the last kilometer to win the Strade Bianche, or those of Cadel Evans and the rest of the pro peloton during an epic, muddy stage across the strade bianche (white gravel roads) in the 2011 Giro d’Italia.
At the end of your rides, you will return to a guesthouse in the heart of Chianti Classico. In an eighth-century Etruscan village that’s been converted to a guest villa, it features authentic wine cellars, well-appointed rooms, and a pool overlooking a lush valley. The finely preserved medieval structures and the pace of life will take you to a different time, where relishing quality and the present take priority, helping you fully disconnect from the pressures of daily life.
Your hosts are the Paladin family known for producing high-quality wines. Their years of experience, investment in research and commitment to tradition have made them key figures in the region’s world famous wine industry. You’ll ride and relax in the “Gallo Nero” region of Chianti, a beautiful and evocative place, deeply tied to tradition and high quality winemaking.
Resting between two of Europe’s most enchanting cities, the relais is just 20km from Siena and 41km from Florence. You will explore these historic cultural centers, famous for brilliant cuisine, unique architecture, and their influence on the arts. Out of the city, you will explore the famed roads of Tuscany.
The ride organizers invite guests to make the trip their own. So while you have the support and guidance of the staff, you will ride as much or as little as you’d like and explore the region at your own pace. These trips are rife with opportunities to learn and enjoy the finer things off the bike. For non-riding partners and guests there are activities to enjoy beyond relaxing, including visits to local markets, villages and places of cultural interest. Optional events include wine tastings with your enólogo, sampling both the Paladin family wines and those of an ancient cellar in Castelvecchi just 7km away. Additionally, a Tuscan cooking class is offered, featuring local ingredients and traditional recipes. You will dine on one of the world’s exquisite cuisines, based on fresh, local ingredients and simple recipes, sampling wines and olive oils produced in the very hills we’ll ride through to earn your indulgences.
