94-Point Napa Cabernet: Magnum of 2013 Coup de Foudre Le Gauchiste
Famed Napa Valley label Coup de Foudre took inspiration from the Left Bank of Bordeaux to produce Le Gauchiste, a Cabernet Sauvignon that has been blended with Cabernet Franc in classic Left Bank fashion to add brightness and a lush tannin profile.
Awarded 94 points by Antonio Galloni of Vinous, 2013 Le Gauchiste delivers multidimensional layers reflecting Napa’s trend of creating powerful yet balanced wines. Dark cherry, fresh blueberry, and cassis notes immediately pop out of the glass and are underlined by subtle hints of spice, vanilla bean, and dark chocolate notes. The palate entry bursts with ripe raspberry and blackberry elements. The fruit profile is supported by a well-rounded tannin structure that carries the fruit through to an extended finish.
The winemakers at Coup de Foudre have put all of their passion on the line for this very special project and that includes the label’s original artwork. New Orleans-based artist Terrance Osborne was commissioned to create a piece of art that detailed the cultural riches of his hometown. This bottle is presented in a wood and acrylic box that slants to the left (another playful reference to the Left Bank) and is sure to be a one-of-a-kind showstopper for your cellar.
